From concept to collateral, we’ve worked with this family-owned café in Crosby since their inception. Specialising in breakfast, lunch and the coffee that accompanies them, the Azul Monkey is a brunching staple for the people of Liverpool.

 

It started with a conversation. When Azul Monkey’s owners got married, they honeymooned in Jamaica and brought back a souvenir in the form of a blue-coloured monkey. To us, this personal story provided a unique name for the restaurant they were about to open. But the word “Blue” can be loaded in Merseyside, where fierce competition thrives between Everton and Liverpool supporters. We opted instead to describe the lurid hue of Jamaican seas, and Azul Monkey was born.

 

They continued this theme with their coffee, sourcing Jamaican beans from Blue Mountain Coffee. The natural mascot for this brand was a primate, which we named “Blue”. Illustrations of monkey baristas, vines, and coffee beans swirled through their branding behind a brush-stroke font in refined, ocean-like teals and golden, coffee-coloured browns. The result: a look conjuring a simultaneously playful (with a character and splatter patterns) and grown-up (muted colours, flowery illustrations) vibe, perfect for capturing the blend of adults and families who enjoy a stack of pancakes and a good cup of joe.
