As a UK company limited by guarantee, we are governed in line with our Memora<\/span>nd<\/span>um<\/span>, Articles of Association<\/span><\/a> and Byelaws<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

These documents are the basis on which we operate and ensure clarity and fairness in all we do.<\/p>\n

The Articles outline the rules for our constitution and operations, including membership criteria and the powers of the Supervisory Board. Our Byelaws provide details on membership grades, our regional network, code of conduct, and disciplinary procedures.<\/p>\n

We comply with the laws of England and Wales and, as a UK registered charity, with the rules and standards set out by the UK Charity Commission.<\/p>\n

The Rt Hon. the Viscount Thurso FIH MI<\/h3>\n

With an impressive background in the hospitality industry,\u00a0Lord Thurso FIH MI\u00a0<\/strong>was Managing Director of the Savoy Group\u2019s Lancaster 5-Star Hotel in Paris at the age of 27 before progressing to lead a number of hospitality businesses including East Sussex National Golf Course, Champneys and Cliveden, which under his leadership, became the UK\u2019s highest rated hotels.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He has served as a non-executive member on a number of public company boards and is Chairman of the family company in Caithness. In 2016 he was appointed Chair of Visit Scotland and serves as an Ex-Officio Board Member of Visit Britain. He was awarded a \u2018Catey\u2019 for services to Tourism in 2003, is President of the Tourism Society, a Fellow of The Institute of Hospitality and a Master Innholder.<\/p>\n

He served in the House of Lords as a hereditary peer until 1999, was elected to the House of Commons as MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross until 2015 and returned to the House of Lords in 2016.<\/p>\n

As the President of the Institute of Hospitality,\u00a0Lord Thurso FIH MI<\/strong> acts as an ambassador, helping to shape the Institute\u2019s strategy and participates in its annual activities.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n

The Articles of Association are the rules by which the Institute of Hospitality is administered.\u00a0 The election of members of the Supervisory Board, running of meetings, organisation of regions and rules of voting are among the issues covered.<\/p>\n

The Bye-Laws govern the membership of the Institute of Hospitality including the ways in which it can be achieved, the mechanisms for upgrading and the rules of conduct of members. Procedures for complaints against members, appeals and decision-making processes by the\u00a0Institute are also covered.<\/p>\n
