Mentoring

The Institute of Hospitality’s mentoring schemes.

The IoH Mentoring programme is the leading global provider of outstanding quality and career development for the profession with a reputation as an international best-in-class programme.

Our programme can match students, apprentices and entry-level talent to leading global professionals to develop future hospitality talent.

The mentoring supports mentees in networking, emotional intelligence, leadership, public speaking, teamwork, business skills, and reverse mentoring.

Mentor Me

Mentor Me is mentoring with a difference. It focuses on career growth and development for both experienced and new hospitality managers.

Our global student members, apprentice members and Associates (AIH) are matched with experienced Members (MIH) and Fellows (FIH) to undertake some guided learning on topical industry issues along with taking part in monthly meetings.

If you can commit to taking part in a virtual one-to-one meeting per month, for a six-month period and you are keen to undertake professional development, as well as supporting a colleague, then Mentor Me could be for you!

Mock Interviews

Interviews can be nerve-racking, and practice makes perfect.

We have developed a mock interview mentoring service. This enhances the Mentor Me programme which is in module 7.

The platform is designed for experienced members (MIH) and Fellows (FIH) to carry out mock interviews and help our global student, apprentice, and Associates members (AIH), develop their interview skills.

The process is simple. Interviewers complete a short form outlining their area of specialism and their geographical location. The interviewee then uses the platform to select a suitable interviewer and contacts them to arrange a virtual mock interview. Once the match and date have been confirmed, the mock interview takes place and feedback is provided.

Expert Mentoring Programme’ (EMP)

This programme allows mentees to select mentors on a specific subject, to help them with their Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Mentoring is recognised within the IoH CPD scheme.

Mentors are experienced, senior IoH Members (MIH) and Fellows (FIH) who are experts in their subject area. The subject areas, as defined by the IoH Five Pillars of Learning are: Business, Customer / GuestLeadershipSelf-care and Team. Plus, a sixth area which will be a specialism, such as Food and Beverage, or Housekeeping.

EMP allows mentees to work with a mentor over a short period of time, to give high-quality and focused mentoring support, in turn giving the mentee a powerful outcome.

Mentees can gain unrivalled access to hospitality, tourism and leisure professionals who can help mentees enhance their work, career, and life plans.

The mentoring programme has been supported with funding from the Savoy Educational Trust and the Lord Forte Foundation

Please note that mentees must be a minimum of 18 years old.
